Radiant Attic Barriers
Radiant barriers are installed in homes to reduce summer heat gain and reduce cooling costs. Radiant barriers and foil insulation systems work by reducing radiant heat gain. The barriers consist of a highly reflective material that reflects radiant heat rather than absorbing it. When the sun heats a roof, it’s the radiant energy that makes the roof hot. Much of this heat travels by conduction through the roofing materials to the attic side of the roof. The hot roof material then radiates its gained heat energy onto the cooler attic surfaces, including the air ducts and the attic floor. A radiant barrier reduces the radiant heat transfer from the underside of the roof to the other surfaces in the attic. Insulation foil is most effective in hot climates, especially when cooling air ducts are located in the attic. Studies show that radiant barriers and attic insulation can reduce cooling costs five to 10 percent when used in a warm, sunny climate. The reduced heat gain may even allow for a smaller air conditioning system.
The manufacture of our Green Attic Barrier™ reflective/insulation radiant barrier product is a Texas-based company that has been in business since the late 70s. Their foil insulation products are some of the best on the market today. Their cutting edge technology in reducing attic temperatures makes it a great fit for homeowners wanting to cut their energy bills. Apex work crews have been installing this product for over 20 years. They take the time to make sure it is installed to perform. They take pride in doing one job at a time.
